AMMAN — The Independent Election Commission (IEC) has referred a number of candidates who ran for Tuesday’s parliamentary elections to the prosecutor general for potential violations of the Elections Law, IEC Spokesperson Jihad Momani said on Sunday.
The commission had received recordings, videos and other materials “proving” that some candidates, including some who won the elections and their supporters, were involved in vote-buying before and on election day, added Momani as reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The spokesperson said that the commission resorted to this procedure after these candidates “deliberately distorted the image of the electoral process and the IEC in an unacceptable way due to reasons related to their dissatisfaction with their personal results”.
