In a statement carried by Petra, the department’s spokesperson Hassan Abu Arqoub said that the department issued more than 12,500 fatwas throughout 2020, especially during lockdown, which was associated with preventive measures taken to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
The issued fatwas were comprehensive and timely, he added, noting the role of Iftaa Department in spreading awareness, social peace, solidarity and cooperation in “righteousness and piety”, as well as preserving Islam’s rulings amid the spread of the pandemic.
