Import of Iraqi crude oil to Jordan reached 380,000 barrels in January

AMMAN — Minister of Energy Hala Zawati on Monday announced that the total volume of Iraqi crude oil received by the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company during January reached 380,000 barrels at a rate of 12,000 barrels per day. Zawati said in a statement that 1,473 tanks transported about 50,000 tonnes of Iraqi crude oil to the refinery in Zarqa in January.

The import of Iraqi oil comes within the framework of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries in February 2019, under which Jordan buys Iraqi crude oil (Kirkuk crude oil) to meet part of its annual needs of an average of 10,000 barrels per day. 

Jordan purchases the oil on the basis of the average monthly price of Brent crude, from which the difference in transportation costs and specifications is deducted, the statement added.

The minister praised the Kingdom's cooperation with Iraq in the field of energy, adding that the commitment witnessed in implementing the MoU comes out of this cooperation, the statement said.
