Industrial exports decline by 0.6% during first half of 2024 — Chamber of Industry

AMMAN — Exports of the industrial sector saw a 0.6 per cent decline during the first half of this year compared with the same period in 2023.

According to statistical data from the Jordan Chamber of Industry, the sector's exports during the first six months of this year amounted to JD4.209 billion, compared with JD4.236 billion for the January-June period of last year, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Despite the slight overall decline in industrial exports, all sectors achieved growth ranging from 33 per cent in the wood and furniture sector to 3 per cent in the food and supplies sector.

The data also showed that the mining industries sector exports declined by 32.4 per cent, packaging by 5.4 per cent, and construction by 35.8 per cent.

Industrial exports during the first six months of 2024 were distributed among the chemical and cosmetic industries sector, which accounted for JD907 million, the leather and garments sector with JD782 million, and the mining sector with JD689 million.

The engineering and information technology industries exports contributed to some JD558 million, food and supplies to JD486 million, and therapeutic and medical supplies to about JD370 million.

The remaining industrial sector exports during the January-June period of this year went to the plastic and rubber industries with a value of some JD168 million, packaging with JD151 million, construction with JD87 million, and the wood and furniture sector with JD12 million.
