JCC, Mexican Business Council sign agreement to enhance economic cooperation

AMMAN — The Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) and the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology (COMCE) on Tuesday signed an agreement to enhance economic cooperation between the private sectors of both countries, according to a statement from the Mexican embassy.

The ceremony was attended by Mexican Ambassador to Jordan Roberto Rodriguez Hernandez and Jordanian Ambassador to Mexico Muhammad Al Tal.

The agreement, signed by Vice President of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce Jamal Al Rifai and the Secretary General of the Council of Mexican Chambers of Commerce and Industry Alberto Varela, enables the two parties to strengthen trade relations, increase the volume of trade and encourage investments and joint projects in both countries, the statement said.

The representatives underlined the need for the two chambers to work together to face the challenges that threaten both economies, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to activate economic bilateral agreements.

Rodriguez highlighted the ongoing negotiation of a partial agreement of tariff preferences between Jordan and Mexico in order to facilitate the trade exchange between both nations.

According to the signed agreement, both parties will exchange information of common interest on economy, in addition to cooperating for the organisation of seminars and conferences, and encouraging the exchange of visits by entrepreneurs and technical specialists to both countries.

It also stipulates that the chambers of commerce are a focal point for business owners on both sides, and that both parties will provide the necessary assistance to institutions, companies and business owners, as well as their participation in international, national and specialised exhibitions held in Jordan or Mexico.
