JCDC study shows lack of multisector cohesion in anti-microbial resistance plan

AMMAN — A recent study issued by the Jordan Centre for Disease Control (JCDC) evaluating the country’s anti-microbial resistance plan revealed that there is a disparity in the implementation rates of anti-microbial resistance plans among sectors.

The study, which assessed the extent to which the 2018-2022 anti-microbial resistance plan has attained its objective, was conducted in cooperation with relevant governmental agencies and international organisations, the JCDC said in a statement sent to The Jordan Times on Wednesday.

The evaluation study provides the framework to formulate the 2023-2025 plan, according to the statement.

Moreover, the JCDC said that “the reasons behind the disparity in the implementation rates are limited financial and human resources, as well as the limited technical capacities and expertise”.

There is a lack of research and studies related to anti-microbial resistance, and a lack of a multisectoral national plan aimed at increasing the level of awareness of anti-microbial resistance, according to the study.

However, it showed that Jordan has achieved “tangible progress in addressing anti-microbial resistance through adopting comprehensive strategies aimed to combat the global health problem”.

The study recommended the allocation of financial resources to implement a national plan, rather than conducting separate activities across different sectors.
