JFDA, AmCham-Jordan sign MoU to improve Jordan's attractiveness to clinical research

AMMAN — The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) and the American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan (AmCham-Jordan), representing the International Research Pharmaceutical Companies Group, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to improve Jordan's attractiveness to clinical research and enable patients to access innovative treatments.
The MoU stipulates mutual commitment between the public and private sectors to support and complete their duties and functions from a development perspective of national healthcare by ensuring access to innovative treatments in the Kingdom, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The memorandum focuses on enhancing the quality and efficiency of medical products to improve patient and healthcare through partnership with the authorities to ensure equitable access to treatments.
The memorandum was signed by Director General of the JFDA Nizar Mheidat, President of the AmCham-Jordan Samer Judeh, and Head of the Department of the International Research Pharmaceutical Companies Group operating in Jordan Moaz Zughoul.
Mheidat said that the memorandum includes the implementation of action plans and joint programmes to serve the pharmaceutical and research sector in Jordan in areas related to developing the electronic system used in drug registration, conducting an analysis of the scientific research environment within specific criteria and discussing the results of the analysis and recommendations with experts.
Judeh noted that the memorandum focuses on medical products and their efficiency to improve healthcare through partnership with local authorities to ensure fair access to treatments, make “a qualitative leap” in innovative medicines and leverage the expertise of the leading international pharmaceutical companies.
Zughoul said that the memorandum is an "important" step to enhance the partnership between the public and private sectors in line with the vision of modernising the health sector in the Kingdom, as well as boosting Jordan's position as a regional hub for clinical studies and research.
