AMMAN — The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO), in coordination with the Foreign Ministry and the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), on Thursday announced that a 14-truck aid convoy laden with emergency relief assistance was dispatched to Syria.
A JHCO statement, cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, said that the aid convoy, laden with blankets, mattresses, generators, food, medical supplies and medicines, based on lists provided by the authorities in charge of disaster management in Damascus, will be delivered to the Syrian Red Crescent.
JHCO Secretary General Hussein Shibli expressed gratitude for the in-kind donations and cash contributions from Jordanians across the private and public sectors, as well as civil society institutions, to support those affected by the earthquakes in Syria. He added: "This assistance plays a crucial role in addressing the basic and essential needs of those affected".
This is the fourth convoy sent to Syria this week, and the aid will be delivered via an “exchange system” at the Jaber/Nasib border crossing between the Syrian Red Crescent and United Nations organisations, he said. According to Shibli, the total number of trucks sent by land since the start of the campaign has reached 75.
