JMD reports highest precipitation in northern, central regions: Salt tops at 111.5 mm, Qatraneh registers lowest at 10.9mm

AMMAN — Director General of the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) Raed Khattab on Sunday said that rainfall between January 23 and 28 was focused on  the northern and central regions of the Kingdom.

Salt weather station recorded the highest rainfall accumulation in the west-central areas with 111.5 millimetres (mm), constituting 22 per cent of its annual average, followed by Al Hussien station which received 77mm of rain, 16 per cent of its seasonal average, Khattab said in a JMD statement.

He added that the University of Jordan station received 72.7mm, representing 14 per cent of its annual average.

The JMD director said that Ras Munif station registered the highest rainfall in the northern region with 107mm, accounting for 18 per cent of its seasonal rate, followed by Irbid station with 68.5mm, making 15 per cent of its annual average.

Baquora station in the northern Jordan Valley recorded 54.5mm, 13 per cent of its annual average, he added.

As for the east-central areas, Khattab said that the Queen Alia International Airport saw the highest rainfall with 107mm, accounting for 18 per cent of its annual average, followed by Zarqa station with 20.2mm, 16 per cent of its annual average, while Mafraq station registered the highest rainfall in the north-eastern region with a total of 21.1mm, accounting for 14 per cent of its annual average. 

Regarding south-western regions, he said that the Rabba station recorded the highest rainfall with 44.8mm, making up 14 per cent of its annual average, followed by Shoubak station with 16.2mm of rainfall, accounting for 7 per cent of its annual average, and then the Qatraneh station which received 10.9mm of rainfall, constituting 11 per cent of its annual average.
