AMMAN — The Jordanian National Red Crescent Society (JNRCS) and the Sharjah Charity International signed on Wednesday a cooperation agreement meant to support 4,000 orphans under the supervision of the UAE Embassy in Jordan.
Salim Khair, JNRCS Secretary General, commended the initiative that falls within the UAE's efforts in various sectors to help the needy and the refugees, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The agreement will start with the sponsorship of 4,000 orphans, and the number will grow continuously as the demand for such sponsorship increases, Khair noted.
Chargé d'Affaires of the UAE Embassy in Amman, Hamad Matrooshi, emphasised that the agreement underlines the strong ties between the two nations, particularly in humanitarian endeavours.
He stressed the confidence that UAE charitable institutions have in the JNRCS, hailing the society's success in implementing charitable and humanitarian projects.
Ali Rashidi, head of a delegation from the Sharjah Charity International, said that the orphan sponsorships will be disbursed in the near future.
During their visit, the guest delegation took a first-hand look on the mechanics of the orphan sponsorship programme, toured the vocational training centre and the Jordan Red Crescent Hospital, and distributed food parcels and gifts to the beneficiary orphans.
