JOC to award JD100,000 to Abu Ghaush for Olympic win

AMMAN — The Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC) will award JD100,000 to taekwondo champion Ahmad Abu Ghaush for winning Jordan’s first ever Olympic medal, a JOC official said on Thursday.
Abu Ghaush, 20, won a gold medal in the taekwondo -68kg event in Rio.
The JOC will also award JD50,000 to Abu Ghaush’s trainer Faris Al Assaf, said JOC Secretary General Lana Al Jaghbeer.
The JOC will hold a celebration to honour the gold medallist at the King Hussein Park in Amman on Friday at 6pm, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Abu Ghaush, was greeted by Royal family members, relatives and fans on his return to Amman on Tuesday night, including their Royal Highnesses Prince Hassan, president of the Higher Council for Self-Defence Sports; Prince Feisal, JOC president; and Prince Rashid, president of the Jordanian Taekwondo Federation.
On his arrival to the Queen Alia International Airport, Abu Ghaush told The Jordan Times that he felt proud he had made his fellow Jordanians happy.
His next step is to defend his title at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and to keep the gold medal for Jordan, he said.
