AMMAN — The Senate on Thursday insisted on giving Land Transport Regulatory Commission employees law enforcement authorities as per the paragraph added by senators to the temporary public transport law, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The Lower House earlier insisted on rejecting the Senate’s version of the temporary law, returning the legislation to the Upper House.
Thus, a joint session will be held to end the argument over the added paragraph.
Also during Thursday’s session, the Senate approved the amended Public Security Law that it had returned to the Lower House, which now stipulates that an officer must have the General Secondary Education Certificate Examination (Tawjihi) degree or an equal certificate to be promoted from the rank of Warrant Officer to Second Lieutenant.
Before the amendment, the law required that the officer pass ninth grade to be eligible for promotion.
The Senate said the amendment should not affect regulations related to promotion from the rank of Warrant Officer to First Lieutenant or from First Lieutenant to Second Lieutenant if it is limited only to promotion from Warrant Officer to Second Lieutenant, thus also not affecting legal positions and given rights.
The Upper House also endorsed the law on regulating dealings with foreign stock exchanges for 2016, which is in line with the restructuring of the public sector, entailing cancelling the council to regulate dealing with foreign stock exchanges and delegating its tasks to the Jordan Securities Commission.
