AMMAN — Jordan won the Distinguished Achievement Award for the best smart ID card in 2018 in a global conference in Warsaw, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Saturday.
The Civil Status and Passport Department (CSPD) Director Fawaz Shahwan received the award during his participation in the annual security-printing conference, held in Warsaw, Poland, on February 19-21.
Shahwan pointed out during the event that Jordan does not live in isolation from global developments, as His Majesty King Abdullah attaches great importance in the electronic government project and the Digital Jordan 2020 initiative.
He highlighted that, based on these concepts, the government has put its efforts into enhancing its services, starting from the Civil Status Department, as they started issuing smart cards with high security standards that include 28 specifications.
The Civil Status Department imprints personal information on the smart IDs using laser engraving technology, ensuring security and durability, the CSPD director noted.
The conference was attended by representatives of Arab and foreign governments, central banks and leading companies in the security documents industry.
Shahwan said that Jordan began establishing nationality legislation with the opening of the first passport office in the Kingdom in 1921, after which the department saw rapid acceleration in its development.
