AMMAN — The Duke of Cambridge Prince William on Sunday attended a ceremony organised by UK Ambassador to Jordan Edward Oakden to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 92nd birthday.

During the celebration, “the prince underscored the deep-rooted ties between Jordan and the UK’s leaderships, stressing keenness on enhancing them”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He noted the cooperation between the militaries of both countries’ that continued since the Great Arab Revolt till the fight against Daesh terror group, stressing that the two countries will stand together against threats and in defence of common values.

Prince William praised Jordan’s resilience facing humanitarian and security challenges resulting from the regional conflicts, including hosting hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees, in addition to the existing commitment to helping the Palestinian refugees.

Jordan must be proud for what it has given in this regard, said the prince, adding that the Jordan as an open and stable community is considered a lighthouse of hope for many people in the Middle East.

Commenting on a visit he paid to the Crown Prince Foundation earlier in the day, the prince said he met with youth activists whose passion, innovation, dedication and commitment to make a difference in Jordan were inspiring. He stressed that Jordan’s strength stems from its people, noting that education and training are vital factors to nourish this precious source and help tap youth’s full potential. He said Jordan’s future would be bright if it was in the hands of young people.
