Jordan-Algeria joint communiqué reaffirms Arab cooperation

AMMAN — A joint communiqué was released on Sunday by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria following the conclusion of His Majesty King Abdullah’s two-day state visit to Algeria.
During the bilateral meeting, which was followed by expanded talks, King Abdullah and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune discussed means of expanding cooperation between Jordan and Algeria across all fields, the communiqué said, according to a Royal Court statement.
In the communiqué, the two leaders reaffirmed the need to bolster joint Arab action to counter shared challenges and serve Arab causes. In that regard, His Majesty congratulated President Tebboune on the success of the Arab Summit recently hosted in Algiers.
Addressing the centrality of the Palestinian cause, both leaders stressed the importance of Palestinian unity and ending divisions, with the King lauding efforts by the Algerian President to bridge differences and unify Palestinian ranks.
President Tebboune highlighted the important role of the Hashemite Custodianship in safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and preserving the Arab, Islamic and Christian identity of the holy city, according to the communiqué.
The two leaders also stressed the importance of promoting Arab cooperation and economic integration.
Both leaders underscored the need to step up Arab and international efforts to reach political solutions to crises in Syria, Libya, and Yemen, reiterating the importance of collective action to counter the threat of terrorism and extremism.
The communiqué also highlighted the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding in various fields, with both leaders commending the outcome of cooperation on pharmaceutical industries and calling on officials in both countries to take the necessary steps to expand cooperation to other sectors.
King Abdullah and President Tebboune also urged officials in both countries to prepare for the upcoming session of the joint Jordanian Algerian higher committee to be held next year, the communiqué said.
