AMMAN — Jordan is one of the countries most affected by the Syrian crisis, UNHCR Representative Andrew Harper said Tuesday.
At a meeting with Interior Minister Hussein Majali, Harper said the international community should be aware of the Jordanian role in supporting Syrian refugees.
The two officials agreed to boost cooperation and coordination.
Majali underlined the role of the UNHCR in supporting Syrian refugees and in assisting Jordan with the repercussions of the crisis.
The refugee influx has exhausted the country’s natural, economic, health and educational resources as well as its infrastructure, water and energy resources due to the increasing pressures on them, Majali said.
He urged the international community to pledge greater commitment to assisting Jordan in its efforts.
