Jordan condemns Israeli attacks on UNRWA facilities in Gaza

AMMAN — Jordan on Tuesday condemned the systematic Israeli targeting of UNRWA, its buildings, and its shelters, including the agency's headquarters in Gaza.

The Foreign Ministry said that these Israeli acts represent an attempt to undermine UNRWA's pivotal and fundamental role in providing humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people by its UN mandate.

Ministry Spokesperson Sufian Qudah stressed the Kingdom's absolute condemnation and rejection of Israel's continued violation of international law, and the targeting of civilians, relief organisations, and their workers amidst international silence that encourages its continuation, under the absence of real and effective measures to stop these violations and hold those responsible accountable.

Qudah added that Israel's attempts to undermine the role of UNRWA, which plays a fundamental role in providing vital services to Palestinians in the war-torn strip, must be countered by the entire international community.

He reiterated that the continuation of UNRWA's work is of utmost importance to maintain the issue of Palestinian refugees, especially in light of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the besieged strip since October 7.

Qudah reiterated calls on the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to take immediate and firm steps to stop these crimes and provide protection to Palestinian civilians and relief organisations that provide vital support to Palestinians.

He stressed the need to enable these organisations, especially UNRWA, to carry out their significant role in providing humanitarian aid and services to Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip, and to ensure their safety from any attack.
