Jordan eyes 2017 as 'year of oil shale' — minister

By JT - Nov 21,2016 - Last updated at Nov 21,2016

AMMAN — Energy Minister Ibrahim Saif on Monday said the government has hopes that 2017 would be the year of achievements in oil shale, especially since there are many international companies working in the Kingdom to utilise this resource.

Inaugurating the third international conference on oil shale, held at the Dead Sea, Saif said the energy portfolio constitutes a burden on the national economy, noting that oil shale is available in many locations in the Kingdom.

Jordan has signed eight memoranda of understanding, in addition to several agreements, with companies to explore oil shale and benefit from it as an energy resource, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
