AMMAN — Jordan and Palestine on Monday discussed the means to enhance trade exchange, and signed an agreement to support investments, according to a ministry statement.

The Minister of State for Investment Affairs Muhannad Shehadeh was received by Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, who briefed him on recent political and economic developments, as well as on his government’s efforts to develop the Palestinian economy.

Hamdallah reiterated Palestine and Jordans’ “deep-rooted” brotherly ties at all levels, praising the Kingdom’s unaltered stance towards the Palestinian issue.

Following the meeting, Shehadeh and Palestinian Economy Minister Abeer Odeh, in the presence of Hamdallah, signed a cooperation protocol between the Jordan Investment Commission and its Palestinian counterpart.

The protocol aims at boosting investments by exchanging information and legislation, as well as studies, research and print pertaining to investments.

Signing the protocol was part of joint efforts to develop cooperation between the two commissions and provide a proper investment environment to cope with trade and economic developments in the world, the statement said.

Odeh said that the protocol was the result of the Jordanian-Palestinian Higher Committee’s fifth meeting, in which both sides agreed to several agreements and protocols that aim at further developing the close relations between the two countries.

During the signing ceremony, both sides highlighted the importance of the protocol in establishing business partnerships between both countries, as well as holding an annual joint forum in either country to provide investors with an opportunity to meet their counterparts.
