Jordan ranks 11th among Arab countries in women representation in parliament

AMMAN — Jordan ranked 11th among Arab countries and 130th internationally on the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s Women in Politics in a 2017 report that was issued on November 1, the Sisterhood is Global Institute (SIGI) said on Thursday.
Women representation in Parliament stood at 15.4 per cent in the Lower House, 20 women out of 130 members, and the Senate,10 out of 65, according to a SIGI statement.
SIGI called for abiding by international references that highlight the importance of enhancing women participation in politics for achieving sustainable and palpable development. As for women representation in ministerial positions, Jordan ranked ninth in the Arab world and 149th globally.
