Jordan renews support for Egypt’s leadership

AMMAN — Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Tuesday discussed with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry the latest regional developments, especially the Israeli escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the situation in Syria and Iraq.

Discussions between the two sides also tackled means to enhance Jordanian-Egyptian relations in all fields.

During the meeting, which was attended by Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Mohammad Momani, Shoukry conveyed greetings from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi to His Majesty King Abdullah, stressing the need to enhance cooperation and coordination between the two countries in all aspects.

For his part, Ensour voiced Jordan’s full support to Egyptian leadership in its endeavour to safeguard the security and safety of the Arab world’s most populous state and restore its leading role in the regional and international arena. 

Shoukry also voiced appreciation of the Kingdom’s support for his country, citing His Majesty’s visits to Cairo and talks with leadership there.

The meeting was attended by Jordan’s Ambassador to Egypt Bisher Khasawneh and Cairo’s Ambassador to Amman Khaled Tharwat.

Also on Tuesday, Judeh met separately with Shoukry, with talks focused on bilateral ties and regional developments.

Shoukry was in Amman in the first leg of a regional tour, which will also take him to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
