AMMAN — Jordan has ratified the International Labour Organisation’s Social Security (Minimum Standards) Convention, 1952, according to a Social Security Corporation (SSC) statement issued on Monday.
The statement quoted SSC Director General Nadia Rawabdeh as saying that Jordan was the second Arab state to ratify the convention after Libya, adding that the social security benefits stipulated in the Social Security Law are better than those listed in the convention.
Rawabdeh said that the convention stipulates that 50 per cent of employees in a country should be covered under the social security umbrella, while in the Social Security Law it is 70 per cent.
