AMMAN — The Jordanian team of engineers, composed of Farah Salah and Khaled Al Sharif, has won the first place in the NASA Europa challenge 2017 competition organised by NASA, which saw the participation of 21 international teams, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Sunday.
Salah is a Communications Engineering graduate from Princess Sumaya University, and Sharif is a Computer Engineering graduate from the Jordan University.
The competition’s judges, who announced that the Jordanian team won in partnership with the US team “Agrospier”, consisted of Finnish experts and foreign specialists in space, satellite and climate.
The winning application of the Jordanian team “World Weather” enables scientists, meteorologists and people interested in weather-related topics to create three-dimensional and four-dimensional images using weather data from different sources, according to Petra.
The team used NASA’s global wind platform and open satellite data to find new and creative solutions, to promote sustainable development, and allow the application users to access accurate information on terrain, cities, weather forecasting, among others.
The Jordanian team members expressed their gratitude to the initiative of HRH Crown Prince Hussein and his efforts to support the Jordanian youth by providing them with creative opportunities through joining NASA’s AMES laboratories last summer.
The Jordanian team pointed out that, through the research presented in the competition, the participants shared ideas that helped them develop and improve the quality of applications that serve the needs of the global community in general.
