AMMAN — Jordanian puppeteer Husam Abed recently received international honours at the 28th International Theatrical Festival Valise in Poland for original artistic concept in recognition of his solo theatre production “The Smooth Life”.
The performance features stories and situations from the family life of a Palestinian man born and raised in Baqaa Refugee Camp in Jordan, according to a statement from the Dafa Puppet Theatre. The stories are taken from Abed’s daily life.
“‘Smooth Life’ is an interesting personal peep into somebody’s life — [a] life so different from our European experience, yet full of love, hope and expectations. Husam creates an atmosphere for all senses,” the statement quoted Marta Ljubkova, a pedagogue at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague as saying. Dafa Puppet Theatre, founded in 2009, works with Palestinian refugee camps and Iraqi and Syrian refugee communities in Jordan.
