AMMAN — Ericsson on Thursday invited Jordanian university students with ideas or existing projects that integrate technology in education to compete for its Innovation Awards 2015.

Any students or groups of students can take part in the competition, themed “The Future of Learning”, Rafiah Ibrahim, president of Ericsson Region Middle East and North East Africa, told The Jordan Times.

“We hope and expect many good ideas about the future of learning from students around the world; students and progressive teachers are catalysts for fundamental change for an-improved learning eco-system,” Ibrahim said.

To enter the competition, university students need to submit a video (YouTube link) with the specific problem they are trying to address and why they deem it important.

The video should highlight the uniqueness of the idea and detail how the solution will be developed.

They also need to provide a two to four page product description document, including an image describing the innovation and its functionality.

It should include how this innovation will be developed and what is required to develop it, as well as an estimate of the resources, including time and money.

Applicants also need to submit the cost of the project’s development and bringing it to market, the value of potential revenue, team members’ details and why they expect to win.

The deadline for submission at www.ericsson.com/innovationawards is December 3 and semi-finalists will be announced on January 12, Ibrahim said.

The finalists will be announced on March 16, and the award ceremony will be held on April 15, she added.

The winners will receive a prize of
25,000 euros, with the runners-up receiving 10,000 euros, and 5,000 euros going to the third-placed team, according to an Ericsson statement.
