AMMAN — Under the banner “Jenin, Fortress of the Lions”, citizens held a march in downtown Amman on Friday, rallying support for the people of the Palestinian city of Jenin and condemning the Israeli occupation’s recent aggression against the city’s residents.

Participants in the march chanted expressions related to pride, honour and solidarity with the Palestine and the city of Jenin, denouncing the Israeli incursion.

International media agencies reported that 12 Palestinians were killed and hundreds were injured in a two-day Israeli military operation in Jenin that began on Monday of last week.

Ahmad Radi, a university student who joined the march, emphasised the importance of unity and collective action.

“We stand here today to show our unwavering support for the people of Jenin. Their struggle is our struggle, and we must stand united against the Israeli aggression,” Radi told The Jordan Times.

“It is our duty to raise our voices and let the world know that we will not tolerate the continued violation of Palestinian rights,” Radi said.

Fatima Saoudi, who participated in the march, told The Jordan Times that public demonstrations play an important role in bringing attention to the Palestinian cause.

“Public protests like this march play a vital role in raising awareness and amplifying the voices of the oppressed,” Saoudi added.

Saoudi noted that the march serves as a reminder that the Palestinian struggle for freedom and justice continues. “Our presence downtown on Friday showed that we will not waver in our support for Jenin and the Palestinian people,” Saoudi added.

Many Jordanians also posted in support of the march on their social media accounts.

“Seeing so many people coming together to support Jenin is truly inspiring,” Nadia Nadia, posted on social media.

Nadia noted that the march sends a strong message of solidarity and resilience. “We cannot remain silent in the face of injustice, we must continue to raise awareness and demand an end to the Israeli occupation,” Nadia said.

“It is high time that the international community takes concrete steps to hold Israel accountable for its crimes against the Palestinians,” Hassan Abu Rub, posted on social media.

“The march serves as a reminder that Jordanians will not forget the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Jenin,” Abu Rub added.
