'Jordan’s 2019 honey production surpassed yearly average'

AMMAN — Jordan produced 340 tonnes of honey in 2019, the Jordanian Beekeepers Association announced on Tuesday. Association President Mohammad Faqeer said that the Kingdom’s production of honey, generated from 60,000 bee cells, ranges from 200-300 tonnes a year, adding that the price of honey per kilogramme can reach some JD20, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
According to official figures, there are 1,400 registered beekeepers in the Kingdom and 48,000 bee cells, he said, adding that, according to the association’s estimations, there are actually some 4,000 beekeepers and 60,000 cells.
Faqeer said that the Kingdom’s imports of honey have hindered promoting locally produced honey, highlighting that around 600 tonnes of honey were imported annually throughout the 2004-2013 period, while imports increased by about 600 per cent since 2014 to reach around 4,000 tonnes a year.
