Jordan’s main dams at 35.5% capacity — ministry

AMMAN — Over 7 million cubic metres (mcm) of water flowed into the Kingdom's dams after the recent rainfall, according to the Ministry of Water and Irrigation's figures released on Saturday.
By Saturday morning, the country’s 14 main dams were 35.5 per cent full, holding 120mcm of water, the official figures showed.
According to a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, these 14 dams have a capacity of 336mcm of water.
Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abul Saud said that the recent rainfall channelled water into most of the country's dams, except for the dams in the southern area including Waleh Dam in Madaba, Mujib Dam in Karak and Tannour Dam in Tafileh.
The latest depression, which brought with it rain and snow, has raised the Kingdom’s cumulative rainfall in all regions to about 4.6 billion cubic metres, around 56.4 per cent of the season’s average annual rainfall of approximately 8.1 billion cubic metres, Abul Saud added.
Ras Munif, in Ajloun Governorate received the most rain at 47.7mm, followed by Jerash and Amman at 37.3mm and 35.2mm respectively.
