AMMAN — The Jordan Press Association (JPA) on Saturday condemned the violations committed by extremist Israeli Minister of Security Itamar Ben Gvir, who, in coordination with settlers, stormed Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif and assaulted and arrested its guards, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

In a statement, the association warned of the consequences of the continuing Israeli crimes and violations, describing the storming of the mosque as an unacceptable transgression and a flagrant violation of international law and the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its holy sites.

The JPA reaffirmed its support for the freedom of Palestinians to establish their independent state on their national soil with East Jerusalem as its capital, highlighting the right of Jerusalemites to defend Al Aqsa Mosque and other Islamic and Christian holy sites.

The association also paid tribute to the martyrs who died in defence of the holy sites in Jerusalem.

Extending appreciation for the stances of His Majesty King Abdullah, the Jordanian government and people, the association highlighted the role of the Hashemite Custodianship in safeguarding the identity and the existing historical and legal status quo of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
