Juvenile suicide rate roseby 31% in 2020 — SIGI

AMMAN — Juvenile suicide rate in 2020 increased by 31 per cent, to reach 21 crimes, the Sisterhood Is Global Institute (SIGI) said on Wednesday. Citing the 2020 annual statistical report issued by the criminal information administration, SIGI noted that juveniles in 2020 perpetrated a total of 1,920 crimes, including 784 felonies and 1,136 misdemeanours, in comparison with 2,412 crimes reported in 2019, marking a drop of 20.4 per cent.
The report added that juvenile crimes constituted 8.5 per cent of the 22,556 crimes committed in the Kingdom. The report showed that sex crimes in 2020 included 187 cases, marking a drop of 39.7 per cent, compared with 310 in 2019.
Rape crimes witnessed an increase by 45.5 per cent, to reach 16 cases in 2020, compared with 11 cases in 2019, according to a SIGI statement.
