AMMAN — The Karak Castle Centre for Consulting and Training has launched a new awareness campaign under the slogan "Her Right to Participate," aimed at combating violence against women in the 2024 parliamentary elections and promoting their active political participation.

According to a statement issued by the centre on Thursday, the campaign focuses on raising awareness about the concept of violence against women in the electoral context, which includes various forms of discrimination, harassment, and threats faced by female candidates and voters.

Isra Mahadin, executive director of the centre, pointed out that the campaign comes within the framework of the centre's efforts to achieve gender equality and empower women, noting that violence against women in elections hinders their political participation and deprives society of their competencies and capabilities.

Mahadin added that the campaign is part of a project to monitor violence against women in elections, supported by the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI, FCLI) and implemented by the Karak Castle Centre for Consulting and Training.

The project targets female candidates for the 2024 parliamentary elections, as well as leaders and members of municipal councils, and civil society activists in various regions of the kingdom, she added, emphasising that the campaign is a step aimed at enhancing the protection of women during the electoral process and aims to highlight the challenges faced by women during elections.

The campaign includes awareness messages through various media, including social media, to all segments of society to enhance their understanding of the risks of electoral violence and their role in combating it, according to the statement.

This is in addition to training and awareness workshops to support women and build their capacities in how to deal with and address cases of violence. This campaign also comes within the framework of broader efforts to ensure that the electoral process is fair and safe for all citizens, with a particular focus on protecting the rights and well-being of women during elections.
