AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, on Monday attended a drill at the King Abdullah II Training City in Muwaqqar, executed by the Public Security Department’s (PSD) investment protection unit.

The unit was established in implementation of His Majesty’s directives to attract investments through providing a safe environment for investors under the rule of law, according to a Royal Court statement.

The facility, which was established earlier in the year under directives of King Abdullah, is tasked with providing security services to investors, which came after an investor was attacked by locals and sustained serious injuries.

The Supreme Commander, in the presence of HRH Prince Rashid, listened to a briefing by the drill commander on the exercise’s stages based on a scenario of security threats to investors and applying the rules set to deal with such a situation.

The force involved exhibited the skills of its members in shooting from different positions, and showcased their high levels of physical fitness and self-defence abilities, while they performed an airdrop operation with a cover from PSD helicopters.

King Abdullah expressed satisfaction with the advanced level of the PSD personnel in responding swiftly and efficiently to various incidents within their jurisdiction.

The Supreme Commander also expressed his pride in PSD personnel, considering them the “first line of defence” in protecting the public, and commended their efforts in safeguarding citizens’ rights and freedoms.

On the sidelines of the drill, His Majesty met with PSD Director Maj. Gen. Fadel Hmoud, who briefed the King on the department’s measures in dealing with various issues, in addition to the PSD’s plans to improve the quality of services it offers.

Hmoud stressed that the PSD spares no effort in protecting investments and creating a safe environment for investment, due to its importance to the national economy.
