AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday visited the construction site of the main Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) station in Sweileh, one of the Greater Amman Municipality’s (GAM) large-scale projects and part of its strategy to develop the transport sector in the capital.
During the visit, the King stressed the importance of completing the BRT project on time to provide efficient public transport services, according to a Royal Court statement.
His Majesty called for an integrated system of public transport services in Amman and replicating that model in various governorates around the Kingdom.
The King directed GAM to follow up on the commercial activities impacted by the project’s construction work and to implement solutions to facilitate traffic flow.
The BRT project is owned and supervised by GAM. Its design and execution are undertaken by Jordanian engineering and contracting companies.
The project, in its first phase, aims to develop the public transport system within Amman and has provided practical training for 160 Jordanian engineering graduates as well as a group of university students.
His Majesty listened to a briefing by Amman Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh, which included a review of the project’s designs and the various stages of its implementation, the statement said.
Shawarbeh noted the quality of the service that will be provided by the project in terms of efficiency and frequency, highlighting that the BRT will serve 250,000 commuters daily.
Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi, Adviser to His Majesty for Communication and Coordination Bisher Al Khasawneh, and Adviser to His Majesty for Policies and Media Kamal Al Nasser accompanied His Majesty on the visit.
