King, Crown Prince attend World Cup opening ceremony in Qatar

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah and HRH Crown Prince Hussein on Sunday attended the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 opening ceremony.

King Abdullah, accompanied by Crown Prince Hussein, also attended the first half of the opening match between Qatar and Ecuador, according to a Royal Court statement.

His Majesty and His Royal Highness were received at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor city by Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani.

The King expressed to Sheikh Tamim his best wishes of success for Qatar in hosting the World Cup, commending Qatar’s great efforts in organising this international championship.

His Majesty and the Crown Prince also attended a reception held by the Qatari emir in honour of heads of state and government who arrived in Qatar to attend the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony.

His Royal Highness Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, president of the Jordan Football Association and the West Asian Football Federation, also attended the opening ceremony and match.
