King, Hollande discuss region over phone

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Saturday discussed over the telephone with French President Francois Hollande regional developments and issues of mutual concern, a Royal Court statement said.

The two leaders stressed the need for further intensified regional and international efforts to eradicate terrorism and radical ideologies, “which pose serious threats to all people and countries with no exceptions”, the statement said.

Discussions also tackled efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East and resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative.

The King stressed the importance of Israel's commitment to ending its provocative measures in Jerusalem and Al Aqsa Mosque, and attempts to change the status quo there, according to the statement. 

The two leaders also discussed the latest developments in the Syrian crisis as well as the hosting countries' humanitarian efforts to the Syrian refugees.

Means to enhance bilateral relations were also discussed during the call.

Hollande voiced appreciation for Jordan's efforts to combat radicalism and terrorist organisations and its endavour to achieve comprehensive peace in the region, the statement said.
