King meets UN chief, urges exerting utmost efforts to increase aid to Gaza

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah and UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Tuesday discussed the pivotal role of United Nations agencies in the humanitarian response in Gaza.
During a meeting attended by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, on the sidelines of the “Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza” conference, His Majesty called for exerting the utmost efforts to double humanitarian assistance for Gaza and ensure its unimpeded flow, according to a Royal Court statement.
His Majesty stressed the importance of reaching an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring the protection of civilians, while also working on reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution.
The meeting also covered the need to maintain support for UNRWA to enable it to undertake its humanitarian duties in accordance with its UN mandate.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan attended the meeting.
