King offers condolences over Italian earthquake

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday sent a cable to Italian President Sergio Mattarella, offering condolences after a deadly earthquake hit several areas in central Italy, a Royal Court statement said. In the cable, the King expressed his sympathies to the president and the victims’ families, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

The death toll from the earthquake rose to 250 on Thursday, Agence France-Presse reported. A total of 215 people have been rescued from the rubble since Wednesday morning, AFP added.
