King, Queen receive 2018 Asian Games athletes

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Rania, on Wednesday received athletes who achieved distinguished results in the 2018 Asian Games, recently hosted by Indonesia. 

During the meeting held at Al Husseiniya Palace, His Majesty expressed his appreciation for all who contributed to realising these sports achievements for the Kingdom, including athletes, coaches and administrative personnel, according to a Royal Court statement. 

King Abdullah noted that what the athletes demonstrated and their success in winning the biggest number of medals in the Kingdom’s history of the games is “a source of pride for all Jordanians”. 

In the presence of HRH Prince Feisal, president of the Jordan Olympic Committee, and HRH Princess Zeina Rashed, president of the Olympic preparation programme, the monarch highlighted the importance of continuing to support and promote athletes and sports federations in order to realise more achievements.

Royal Court Chief Yousef Issawi and Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas also attended the meeting.

The Asian Games is held every four years and is considered the second biggest sports event after the Olympic Games, in terms of numbers of games and athletes involved.

In the 2018 Asian Games, Jordan seized two gold medals (in Taekwondo and Jiu Jitsu), one silver medal in  Taekwondo and nine bronze medals (in taekwondo, Jiu Jitsu, karate and boxing).
