AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday posted a message paying tribute to retired veterans in celebration of Veterans Day on the official Royal Court’s Facebook.
His Majesty said: "On this national day that celebrates our retired military veterans, I salute you my brothers in arms, in the same manner that all Jordanians do."
February 15 was designated a national day in recognition of the achievements of veteran warriors and ex-servicemen under Royal directives to the government in 2011.
The message, which received more than 20,000 likes by Facebook users by Sunday evening, said: "Our service and sacrifice are the embodiment of the true values of life, integrity and freedom."
"Our brothers and sisters serving in the Arab Army today are upholding your legacy of bravery, sacrifice and selflessness in defending our nation, the Arab cause and our benevolent Islam," he added.
"On this day, we and all Jordanians reciprocate your loyalty with loyalty. Your sacrifices will be immortalised in the conscience of every Jordanian and be a proud hallmark that guides our future generations."
Deputising for His Majesty, Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Sunday attended a ceremony organised in Irbid by the Economic and Social Association for Retired Servicemen and Veterans to honour ex-servicemen.
Ensour passed on King Abdullah's regards to the retired veterans and expressed His Majesty's appreciation for the servicemen's ongoing support and effort to serve and defend their country.
He said: "You are his comrades who stand beside him without fail."
