Kingdom to host regional forum on post-conflict reconstruction

AMMAN — Jordan is preparing to host a regional forum focused on the reconstruction of Arab countries which have experienced conflict and destruction, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Tuesday. 

The forum, which is scheduled to begin in Amman in July, will prepare the private sector and Jordanian companies to actively participate in reconstruction projects in Arab countries.

Head of the higher preparatory committee for the regional forum, Mohammad Halayqa, said post-conflict reconstruction includes rebuilding infrastructure and institutional systems, as well as focusing on human beings cut off from services, especially education and health. 

Jordan, in light of its knowledge of the Iraqi and Syrian markets, is “well-placed” to take part in the reconstruction projects of those countries, he noted. 

The forum will see Arab and international participation, especially of the International Finance Corporation, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, Halayqa said, adding that international estimates for the costs of reconstruction projects in Syria, Iraq and Yemen amount to up to $500 billion. 

The forum will be held on July 12 and 13, with an international exhibition for construction and interior decoration held on the 14th and 15th, Petra reported.
