AMMAN — The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) on Monday concluded a two-day stress management workshop programme, targeting parents of children with various challenges, at the Marka School for Hearing Impaired Students.

Forty parents attended the workshops, a statement sent to The Jordan Times said, as part of KOICA’s support for national efforts to develop special education in Jordan.

The programme aims to provide mental health support for the parents experiencing unusual amounts and types of stress taking care of their children with special abilities.

The school, where the workshops took place was established by a grant from KOICA at a cost of $5.2 million, including construction, furnishing, equipment fitting and teachers training, the statement said.

The workshop consisted of lecture on how to manage stress and handcraft session during which they could put aside their concerns, KOICA explained.

Participants appreciated KOICA’s initiative, highlighting that they have learned some useful ways from the workshops to relieve stress at home.

The statement quoted one of the participants saying: “I will remember to practice some of the useful ways I learned... and I thank KOICA for organising such workshops for us.”

“I hope more of such workshops will be held in the future,” he said.

The KOICA Jordan office stated that KOICA intends to continue its partnership with the Jordanian government in the field of special education.

KOICA’s work with the government has helped provide suitable education environments for children with various disabilities, such as hearing challenges, in accordance with high international standards, the statement concluded.
