Labour Ministry received 13,996 complaints on Himaya platform in 2022

AMMAN — The Ministry of Labour received a total of 13,996 labour complaints on the Himaya (Protection) platform, used to file labour grievances, in 2022.
Of the complaints, 13,580 were settled with employers, according to a report obtained by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The report showed that 69 complaints were not transferred to relevant authorities and 347 others are still being processed.
There were 87 child labour complaints, 85 of which the ministry resolved with employers. The two remaining cases are currently being addressed.
The highest number of complaints, at 5,508, pertained to wage non-payment, while there were 1,544 grievances related to termination of service for an indefinite-term work contract, or absence of an employment contract.
The ministry received 1,108 complaints of work suspension, and an additional 480 pertained to failure to issue an experience certificate. There were 375 cases related to failure to pay minimum wage, the report showed.
The report also indicated that inspection teams carried out 22,896 visits in 2022, and recorded 4,714 violations. The teams issued warnings to 1,703 facilities, and issued fines in accordance with the Labour Law and relevant defence orders.
Inspectors detected 520 cases of child labour during their visits, and 142 facilities were given warning and 160 establishments were fined, the report revealed.
The labour complaints received on the platform also included forcing workers to submit unpaid leave, resignation, annual leave allowance or give up rights to overtime, public holiday allowance, holidays, termination of services, suspension from work, reduction of wages, failure to receive a copy of the employment contract and failure to pay minimum wage.
