AMMAN — MPs on Sunday handed Syrian Chargé d’Affaires in Amman Ayman Alloush a list of Jordanians jailed in Syria.

The list was provided by MPs Tareq Khouri, Nidal Taani and Qais Ziadin, president and members of the Jordanian-Syrian Friendship Committee, during a visit to the Syrian embassy in Amman, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

MPs urged efforts to ensure the release of Jordanians jailed in Syria, according to Petra.

MPs also presented a memento to Alloush for completing his term in Jordan and in recognition of his efforts to restore Syrian-Jordanian relations, Petra reported.

Discussions with the outgoing Syrian diplomat also covered ways to enhance the Jordanian-Syrian relations, according to Petra.

In December last year, the Lower House formed the Jordanian-Syrian Friendship Committee following a parliamentary delegation's visit to Damascus in November for meetings with President Bashar Assad and other Syrian senior officials and lawmakers.

Jordan and its northern neighbour reopened the Jaber-Nasib border crossing on October 15, 2018, after passenger and cargo traffic was halted for more than three years as a result of the escalating violence in the Syrian town of Nasib, just across the border station, some 80km north of Amman.
