Local administration minister tours 3 municipalities in Naur

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration Tawfiq Kreishan on Sunday visited three municipalities located within Naur region.
During his tour, the minister was briefed on the achievements of Naur, Um Al Basateen and Husaban municipalities, with talks also covering the challenges facing the municipal work, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Kreishan emphasised the importance of political and development roles of municipalities, besides providing services, urging stakeholders to involve the private sector to make municipalities’ investments a success and calling for optimising grants appropriately.
The minister, during his visit, also listened to municipal workers’ demands, Petra reported.
Naur Mayor Zayed Sawaeer called for developing a comprehensive plan, establishing “clear eligibility criteria for grants distribution”, reconsidering the building law, as well as reopening the post office. The mayor also highlighted the municipality's need for a graveyard and the implementation of the sanitation project.
Um Al Basateen Mayor Basem Al Faleh highlighted the municipality’s need for ferries in low-lying regions.
Meanwhile, Um Al Basateen and Husaban mayors called for increasing the number of municipality workers, among other demands.
Kreishan, at the end of the visit, said that a committee has been formed to identify all the demands and challenges facing the municipalities, highlighting the need of resolving the problems in a swift manner.
