AMMAN — The Local Administration Ministry on Tuesday referred a bylaw to the Cabinet on dividing the electoral constituencies of the governorate councils with the aim to proceed with endorsement procedures.
Deputy Prime Minister and Local Administration Minister Tawfiq Krishan said that the ministry was keen to represent all local community members in each governorate, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Krishan noted that the draft bylaw took into consideration the criteria related to poverty and unemployment when determining the number of representatives for each constituency, with the aim to boost governorate councils’ developmental role.
Nidal Odwan, legal adviser at the ministry, said that the draft bylaw referred to feedback from previous elections and the performance of the representatives.
