Lower House calls for Arab parliamentary stance in support of Palestinians

AMMAN — The Lower House on Tuesday stressed the importance of an Arab parliamentary stance in support of the Palestinian people in the midst of the devastating war waged by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip.

During a meeting chaired by Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi and Palestinian National Council Speaker Rawhi Fattouh, at the Chamber, the discussions highlighted the key role of His Majesty King Abdullah in defending Palestinian rights and safeguarding the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

They stressed the importance of the international community in heeding His Majesty King Abdullah's long-standing warning messages, which have emphasised that the denial of Palestinian rights, the failure to deliver justice to the Palestinian people, the absence of a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause, and the continued violations against the holy sites and settlement construction will only lead to fuel the conflict and sustain a condition of tension and turmoil in the region.

They underlined the importance of His Majesty's recent speech to the United Nations General Assembly. The King delivered clear messages aimed at advancing the peace process through a two-state solution that guarantees the Palestinian right to an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Fattouh called for an emergency meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Union to discuss the escalation and the situation in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza in light of the latest developments in the Palestinian territories.
