Lower House speaker meets with Egyptian counterpart

AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi on Sunday held discussions with his Egyptian counterpart, Hanafi Gabali, highlighting the importance of maintaining continuous parliamentary coordination and consultation for the benefit of both countries.

In a joint statement, Safadi and Gabali emphasised the deep-rooted nature of Jordanian-Egyptian relations, and expressed their commitment to ongoing consultations to address regional issues, the foremost of which is the Palestinian cause.

The statement emphasised the significance of the Hashemite Custodianship in preserving the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and stressed the need for further progress in trilateral Jordanian-Egyptian-Iraqi economic integration, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

They also underlined the importance of exchanging parliamentary experiences and activating the Jordanian-Egyptian Parliamentary Friendship Committee to enhance coordination across all platforms.

The two sides agreed to sustain trilateral parliamentary coordination between Jordan, Egypt and Iraq, and stressed the importance of cooperation in higher education, trade and culture.

In a press conference following the discussions, Safadi reaffirmed Jordan's unwavering support for Egypt's stability.

Safadi expressed gratitude for Egypt's official support for the Hashemite Custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Gabali noted the alignment of Egyptian and Jordanian positions on the Palestinian cause.

He commended Jordan's consistent support for Egypt, particularly in relation to the Renaissance Dam.
