AMMAN — Speaker of the Lower House Ahmad Safadi held official talks on Tuesday with President of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States, and President of the People's National Assembly of Algeria Brahim Boughali.

During the meeting, Safadi and Boughali affirmed the robust historical ties between Jordan and Algeria, led by His Majesty King Abdullah and Algeria President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

They also  recognised the King's firm stance against the Israeli aggression on Gaza and his support for Palestinian rights, which they believe has brought clarity to the international community.

Both parties also emphasised the urgent need to cease the war in Gaza and advocated for a two-state solution to benefit the Palestinian people. They also stressed the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem.

The meeting also highlighted the need to enhance joint parliamentary work and coordinate positions in Arab and international parliamentary forums to further the interests of both countries.

Safadi underscored the necessity to bolster parliamentary cooperation, activate joint committees, and build upon the strategic relationships led by the King and President Tebboune, for the mutual benefit of both nations and their citizens.

Boughali also expressed his country’s enduring gratitude for Jordan’s support of the Algerian struggle during the revolution and the fight against colonialism.

Also on Tuesday, Acting Senate President Abdullah Ensour discussed with Boughali, ways to enhance parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and developments in the region. This came during Nsour’s reception of Boughali and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of Algerian Ambassador to Jordan Abdulkarim Behha.
