Maaytah, WB officials discuss women's empowerment

AMMAN — Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs and Chair of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Women's Empowerment Musa Maaytah on Sunday met World Bank’s Resident Representative in Jordan Holly Benner and World Bank’s consultant Nour Moghrabi.

Maaytah highlighted that the women’s committee, pursuant to the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System (RCMPS), has made recommendations related to women's political participation and access to Parliament and political parties. He highlighted the role of the inter-ministerial committee in enhancing women’s empowerment in all aspects of social, economic and political life.

Benner highlighted the WB’s keenness on supporting the women’s sector, through identifying the challenges facing the sector and setting mechanisms to pave the way for best solutions that match the available social and economic opportunities in Jordan.

She also expressed readiness to cooperate with the government to enter into a dialogue  with the private sector, notably over the recommendations of the Economic Empowerment of Women in Jordan Conference, in addition to provide all data that could improve policies, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
