AMMAN — Police on Wednesday said they arrested a man who reportedly shot and killed a woman “by accident” in an Amman suburb.
The victim was in a street in the Abu Alanda suburb when she was allegedly struck by a bullet fired by the suspect, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.
“The victim was most probably shot by mistake, because the suspect was shooting at a man in the street but missed and instead the woman was struck in the face,” Sartawi said.
She died at the scene, the police official told The Jordan Times.
The suspect was immediately arrested and a weapon was seized in his possession, the police official added.
A second source told The Jordan Times that the weapon seized was sent to the criminal lab for a ballistic match.
“We want to make sure that the bullets were fired from the weapon found in the suspect’s possession before we build a case against him,” the second source said.
A judicial source told The Jordan Times on Wednesday that the Criminal Court prosecutor will start questioning the suspect on Thursday.
